2018 Convention - Frontiers in Coatings

The 2018 SCANZ Convention "Frontiers in Coatings" has been conquered and is now behind us.

We would like to thank the speakers, sponsors, delegates and partners for participating and helping make this another fantastic event. We especially liked the fact we had some new faces there!

Chateau Tongariro lived up to its reputation as a great place to be, and the weather just added to the atmosphere, providing us with stunning views of the mountains surrounding the Chateau.

We would like to thank Sue Bartlett for attending on behalf of SCAA, and presenting the SCAA Certificate of Learning to Pruthik Patel. She also gave us some fantastic ideas for enhancing our convention for next year.

The event started with the Welcome Function at the Chateau, before everyone went down to the Tussock Bar for the highly contested and extremely enjoyable Quiz Night. With what had to be the closest finish ever, the night lived up to its reputation as the best icebreaker for the Convention.

Our speakers took centre stage Thursday, and we had the pleasure of listening to some highly technical and informative talks.

Thursday night's dinner theme was "Expeditions and Explorations". The plethora of costumes was astonishing and yes, we have pictures!
The highlight of the night was the presentation to Ransi Devendra of the Whitfield Award - this was very well deserved, and even better, Ransi did not expect it at all.

Friday morning started with two more fantastic technical papers, before finishing with two more generic papers by EPA and Business NZ. Those who stayed on got to enjoy the fantastic weather, some biking, white water rafting and walks, before our last dinner for the event, followed by the Sir Edmund Hillary moving "Beyond the Edge", and some late night chats in the lounge area.

The 2018 Convention lived up to its reputation of being a great opportunity to network with fellow members of the Surface Coatings Industry, be it at the breaks, dinners or even watching the Warriors game!

We encourage you to start looking now towards the 57th SCANZ Convention next year in Christchurch, with the theme "Coatings Resistenz". This will be held on 28th - 30th August 2018 and the Call for Papers and Sponsorship Proposal will be released in October.

Of course, if you are interested in presenting a paper or sponsoring and want to get in early please contact us on [email protected]

Kind regards
