ACA have invited SCANZ members to their Auckland meeting, to be held at Surrey Hotel in Grey Lynn.

People are encouraged to arrive from 5pm for a drink and nibbles, with the talk starting at 6pm.  We have set this up as a hybrid meeting, so you can attend in person, or virtually.

Speaker:  Philip O'Sullivan

Title:  Leaky buildings and other defects

It started with leaky houses, grew into leaky apartment and school buildings.  Now structural and fire defects feature with the odd spot of corrosion for interest – an update from my last ACA presentation in 2007.

Please register if you are interested in attending.  This is a very interesting talk, especially as the repairs are still ongoing from 2007!

Philip O'Sullivan Bio:

Registered Building Surveyor, Philip O’Sullivan specialises in residential, body corporate and special project (research-based) building surveying. Philip is a qualified civil engineer and spent his early career years working on structural engineering, building design, project and then company management. He joined Prendos in 1995 and as a BRANZ Accredited Advisor undertook a wide range of  building defect work. In doing so, he gained experience in identifying and dealing with building problems and defects. He also gained first-hand experience of moisture problems and timber decay. It led him to consider and promote the principles and practices that would eventually be introduced into the industry to ensure greater weathertightness. He also developed the communication skills needed to bring the extent of the problem to the notice of the industry, the government and the public.

A straight shooter, Philip has worked tirelessly through various government groups and industry organisations to help resolve the systemic aspects of the leaky building problem. He also has significant knowledge and experience as a building expert in preparing and presenting evidence in tribunals and court. Philip is a past President of the Cladding  Institute of New Zealand, and past President of the New Zealand Institute of Building Surveyors (NZIBS). Philip regards his groundbreaking work with weathertightness to be his biggest achievement, along with helping Prendos grow into a significant business.
